A Visit to Wangdue Court

Laws are made to keep peace and treat every one with sameness in the country. All citizens irrespective of position, religion and caste must be governed by it. If every citizen is to know laws then starting to learn from school days is a best option. Starting 2012, on the initiative of Her Royal Highness Ashi Sonam Dechen Wangchuk, School Law Club was started in three schools of Punakha HSS, Ugyen Academy HSS and Bajothang HSS coinciding with the His Majestry’s Birthday from Punakha. Gradually the numbers have increased and have reached many schools in all the dzongkhags.
Ever since its inception, Bajo HSS Law club has many students joining the club voluntarily. It is very heartening to see our young students so keen to learn laws. Like any other club in the school, Law club members meet every Wednesday. The activities for the club are designed by the club coordinator in discussion with the members that best suit their interest. To deviate from the solo presentation by the coordinator week in week out, guest speakers from Dzongkhag Court lead by Dasho Drangpon, Officer in Command from Royal Bhutan Police and Dzongkhag Legal Officer have talked to the members. Dasho Drangpon has been very supportive and passionate about the programme.
Law Club with Wangdue Drangpon
It is with this fervent reason that on 20th August 2014, the club members were given an opportunity to see the actual court proceedings in the Dzongkhag court room. The coordinators may have explained the proceedings and students visualize but there is no better substitute than to see it live. Show casing the scenario of the court starting from how the day in the court begins to how trails are conducted to how the day ends, these experiences embedded in the minds on the club members will benefit many other students who were not very fortunate to visit court through sharing sessions. The club members were full of praise and smiles all around for they got to be part of the history before a new glamorous court stands. Many thanks to Dasho and other officials in the court remain indebted for the opportunity and experience that will take laws dearly in their hearts and as profession for some members later. And a refreshment out side the court room was cherished and more so a photo with Dasho Drangpon in the Court room; a memorable moment in the life of the club members. The journey to learning laws doesn’t end here and we continue to move forward with promises our own to serve Tsa Wa Sum at our own BEST.

Sherig Collection in Bajothang

Bajothang eLearning Club is a new club founded by school computer teacher, Passang Tshering with 18 student members. The club aims to explore way to bring eLearning concept to school and build eLearning resources. The vision and action plan of the club could be read on their blog.
The new club, though with smart concept, was fighting endless limitations. Coincidentally, Rigsum invited the club master to attend the introductory presentation and demo of Sherig Collection in Thimphu, which was a blessing to the new club.
Read about the Sherig Collection in the following page from Kuensel, which also contain words of the school club master.

The whole collection is with the eLearning Club and could be easily shared with any school or individual during the school hours. While our own students and teachers wishing to avail the resources can visit the computer lab where at least 10 computers are equipped with the collection as of today.
The club plans to set up Wiki Booths in library and WiFi Park to make the resources easily accessible by the students.

Democracy Club Inaugurated

This year school decided to do away with games clubs and focus on creative and unique clubs that promise to inspire and engage students in productive enterprises. However, this was not to ignore games at all, it was rather to draw a line between clubs and games. Games are for all and school took the wise decision not to isolate it for few within the games clubs, as it used to be.
The Opening
Among the many new clubs the teachers devised, there were a few clubs that are mendetory for every school to have which will be overlooked by parent organizations beyond schools. They are GNH Club, UNESCO Club, SAP Club, School Law Club and School Democracy Club.
Mr. Kinley Speaks to students
School Democracy Club is a new entry in 2013 and is a brainchild of Election Commission of Bhutan. The new club was formally inaugurated in the school last week under the leadership of Ms. Sangay Lhaden. She will be assisted in the coordination of the club by principal Mr. Shangkar Lal. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Mr. Kinley from ECB who spoke to the students about the vision of the club in school- "...to instill the value of democracy in every student from the very early age so that it becomes a part of you."

First Club Exhibition Spells Success

Thursday, 18th October 2012: The school hall filled with excitement right from the morning. Children were walking in and out hurriedly. They were preparing for the first ever Club exhibition in the school. Mrs. Deki, our new vice principal, who takes care of club matters in the school gave birth to this idea and had made the announcement a week ago.
While some sports clubs didn't have much to show beyond some charts of rules and display of sport gears, the exhibition turned out to be a blessing for three clubs in particular;

  • Knitting Club could not only display their huge collection of knitted outfits but also were able sell some of their products for handsome price.
  • Visual Arts Club would have never been able to show off their massive collection of artworks prepared by its members and the master Hemlal himself.
  • and finally Home Science club saw this as yet another good opportunity to generate income by selling mouthwatering dishes like they have been doing every Wednesday throughout the year.
Science Club had its own solo exhibition way back in summer from where the winning entry were selected for regional level competition.

Crowd Waits for the opening!

Teachers follow the Principal to inaugurate the exhibition

Knitting Club almost had a Shop

Cricket has this!

Visual Arts stood tall

They had sketchesof The King to teachers...

Knitting Club making money with big smiles

The waiting line...
The success of the first exhibition could mean we are going to have to year after year, and make it bigger with time.
